About Snowman Trek

The Snowman Trek is a strenuous trek requiring to cross 11 passes, three of which are over 5000 m. It means you have to be physically fit & mentally prepared. The trek begins from Paro or Punakha (west) and ends in Bumthang or Trongsa (central). It is a combination of Chomolhari, Laya & Lunana trek crossing the Renchen Zoe pass with height of 5,400 m the highest pass in Bhutan. The snowman trek can take 21 days or 28 days depending on from which part you prefer to start the trel. It is one of the most challenging treks

in the Himalayas.


Trip Highlights

  • The snowman trek leads you to the seldom visited region of Lunana, passing some of the last virgin peaks of the Himalayas offering you a great variety of trekking conditions from picturesque farmland and forest to alpine pastureland.
  • This trek will take you close to the huge snow, ice and rock faces of the mountains where most of the Himalayan peaks towering to the north are unnamed and unclimbed.
  • The only local inhabitants are the rare species such as bharal, or blue sheep, takin and the snow leopard.
  • Spring, summer and autumn offers the alpine meadows filled with countless varieties of flowers.

    Day 01: KATHMANDU/PARO

    During this flight, Druk Air will give you an opportunity to glance at the magnificent view of the Himalayas. You will be greeted by our epresentative and drive (20 min.) through the beautiful Paro Valley. O/n Hotel. Altitude: 2200m.

    Day 02: IN PARO

    AM: Paro sightseeing including a visit to DRUKGYAL DZONG, TA DZONG. PM: Afternoon at leisure or visit to a farm house. O/n Hotel.

    Day 03: IN PARO

    AM: For better acclimatization hike up to Taktsang Monastery located on a mid-hill of 3000 m. The hike takes about 3 hrs overlooking the beautiful Paro Valley. PM: Easy walk down & drive to resort. You can relax & prepare for the trek starting next day.

    Day 22: Tshochena - Jichu Dramo 14 km / 6/7 hrs walk / climb over Loju la pass alt. 4900 m. Camp at alt. 4400 m.

    Day 23: Jichu Dramo - Chukarpo 18 km / 8/9 hrs walk / climb over Rinchenzoe pass alt. 5400 m. Camp at alt. 4200 m.

    Day 26: Marothang - Nikachu 22 km / 7/8 hrs walk / Camp at alt. 2600 m or drive to Wangdiphodrang. O/n Resort.

    Day 27: Early morning drive (5 hrs) to the capital city Thimphu. En route visit Punakha the old capital. O/n Resort

    Day 28: Thimphu sightseeing

    AM: visit the indigenous hospital where traditional method are being still practised, painting school, National library: a treasure trove of priceless Buddhist manuscripts, Royal goldsmith workshop, weaving centre & Bhutanese paper making. (Lunch). PM: visit the Memorial Chorten dedicated to the late King, 15 century Changangkha Lhakhang, Drupthop Nunnery & Tashichhodzong centre of Government and religion. Drive to Paro (2 hrs). O/n Hotel
