About Gangtey Gogona Trek

The Gangtey – Gogona Trek is more focused to the trek rather than the culture tour. However, the itinerary includes 1½ days sightseeing tour to the major sites in Paro and Thimpu (capital of Bhutan). Then, a scenic drive from Thimpu directly takes you to Gangtey, the trek starting point via Punakha.

Trip Highlights

  • The Phubjikha valley at 3,000 m is one of the few glacial valleys in Bhutan.
  • It is the home of the rare Black Necked Cranes which migrate here every winter from the Tibetan plateau.
  • Gangtey is one of the most beautiful places and the Gangtey Gompa is the only Nyingmapa monastery on the western side of the black mountains.
  • This Gangtey to Gogona trek exposes the villages of Gogona and Khotokha traversing through green meadows, lovely fields, beautiful forests with juniper, magnolia and rhododendrons.
  • This trek is considered as one of the finest low level treks in Bhutan.

Itinerary

    Day 01: ARRIVAL - PARO

    The flight into the Himalaya reveals breathtaking views of the great peaks MT EVEREST, MT KANCHANJUNGA, MT CHOMOLHARI, MT JICHU DRAKE, etc., taking you right into the Dragon Kingdom's scraping airstrip at PARO. On arrival you will be greeted and transfered through the beautiful PARO valley to Hotel - dinner & overnight at hotel.

    Day 02: IN PARO

    Morning RINPUNG DZONG, TA DZONG MUSEUM including local bazaar in PARO valley. Afternoon, scenic drive to Paro (65 km: 1½ hrs) and sightseeing tour to Visit National Library; School of Arts, Painting & Medicine; and local Thimpu bazaar - Overnight at hotel

    Day 03: PARO – PUNAKHA – GANGTEY (3,000 m): 150 km: 5-6 hrs

    AM: Scenic drive to Punakha via Dochu la (pass of 3,100 m) from where we can enjoy the mighty Bhutanese Himalayan range including (left to right): Masagang (7,158 m), Tsendagang (6,960 m), Terigang (7,060 m), Jejegangphugang (7,158 m ), Kangphugang (7,170 m ), Zongphugang (7, 060 m ) and Gangkar Puensum, the highest peak in Bhutan with a height of 7,497m. This is where the lovely site with the beautiful rows of 108 chortens (stupas) is magnificent. Visit Punakha Dzong. PM: After lunch in Punakha, continue picturesque drive through the beautiful Bhutanese country side and uphill hilly road to Gangtey. O/n Lodge in Gangtey (Phubijika Valley)

    Day 04: TREK STARTS FROM GANGTEY TO GOGONA (3,100 m):

    Today, after breakfast, our trek begins from Gangtey to Gogona. We walk about 15 km by taking about 5/6 hrs. Camp at alt. 2700 m. Enjoy the lovely scenery around the camp with tea/coffee in the evening. Dinner and overnight.

    Day 05: TREK GOGONA TO KHOTOKHA (2,790 m)

    Today, we walk from Gogona to Khotokha by crossing Shobju la (pass of 3,600 m. We walk about 16 km in about 6/7 hrs. Camp at alt. 2,800 m.

    Day 06: TREK KHOTOKHA TO CHAZAM & DRIVE TO WANGDI (1,500 m)

    Today, we continue our trek from Khotokha to Chazam crossing over Mulaila pass of 3,000 m by walking about 15 km in 5/6 hrs. At Chazam, we end trek and say bye to our camping staff. Then, we drive to Wangdiphodrang. O/n Hotel.

    Day 07: DRIVE WANGDI – THIMPU - PARO

    Today, after breakfast, we take a scenic way back drive to Paro via Thimphu. We can also enjoy the spectacular Himalayan view from the Dochu la (pass), once again with a short stop. O/n Hotel in Paro with a good rest exploring Paro valley in the evening.

    Day 08: DEPARTURE FLIGHT

    Early morning drive to PARO Airport to board your onward flight.

  • 1. Sometimes, visits to some Dzongs and monuments can be closed without any prior notice.
  • 2. Airfare and visa fees are subject to change as per airlines and Govt. regulation.
  • 3. Bhutan visa processing takes 1 week minimum.
  • 4. Please bring 2 copies of passport size photos for obtaining visa at Paro airport.

Terms and conditions of the Bhutan tours

1) There shall be cancellation charges on the tour booked

  •  Within 21 days from the date of tour: 10% of the price
  •  Within 14 days from the date of tour: 15% of the price
  •  Within 7 days from the date of tour: 30% of the price
  •  Less than 7 days from the date of tour: 50% of the price
  •  After arrival in Bhutan: 100%.

2) The cancellation charges will be as follows on air tickets.

  •  Once the air ticket is issued, it will not be subject to refund or change of the passenger's name or date of flight.
  •  It can only be re-used within the same calendar year, if the same passenger is traveling in the same sector.

3) Unless full payment for the tour and air tickets is received by our Bhutan agent, tour shall not be entertained on 100% confirmed basis.

4) Hotels as mentioned shall be provided on the availability basis, since the envisaged hotels could be full any time as they are not big enough.

5) As all Bhutan tour tariffs are strictly controlled by the Bhutan Tourism Council (BTC), they are subject to change or rise without any prior notice.
